Message from the Chief Executive Officer
We are well on the way; sharpening tools in our toolkit to provide scholars and staff with greater opportunities for 2015-2016. NMTCS marks its tenth year with new milestones and initiatives that will make this year even better than the previous.
We are especially pleased that for the first time in our school’s history we achieved our enrollment cap of 550 students in grades 6 through 12, and an extensive waiting list from which we can select. We credit this growth in student enrollment to our recommitment to our school’s mission -- technology, culture and project-based learning. NMTCS alumni are excelling at some of the finest institutions in the country such as Morehouse College, Hampton and Howard Universities.
The start of this school year ushered in new hopes and possibilities, but also new challenges that we are confronting head on with the future of our scholars in mind. As I have written and discussed with you before, this past June, the School Reform Commission voted to non-renew the charter of our school. The Board of Directors and staff agreed with me that we have made significant strides over the past year to remedy the in-actions of our past. Over the next few months a hearing process will ensue where testimony will be provided to help underscore the need for an independent charter to continue existing. I will keep you posted on these developments, but ask you to go to our website and take the family satisfaction survey so that your voice will be heard.
For the 2015-2016 academic year, we will be engaged in rigorous and innovative work to continue transforming the lives of our scholars. We will continue building on the work we started last year, and to lay the foundation for designing transformative programs and a school environment fit for another ten years.
Thank you for your continued efforts to assist us in providing the very best teaching and learning environment for the scholars at NMTCS as we embark on what I believe will be a successful and exciting year.
With Jaguar Pride,
